Mango

this morning, i found a mango on a dining table at home. not the reddish/greenish one, but the yellowish/greenish one. because mango is pretty expensive here and not a “casual” fruit, i’d never seen one at home before. yea, it was a offering and decoration at my grandpa’s funeral.

the yellowish/greenish mango triggered my reminiscence: the scenes of Kolkata. then i realized that today, June 10th, was the day i entered India a year ago. I opened my laptop and read my friend’s diary about Kolkata on mixi. i met her there a year ago. she is still travelling around the world, and just got back to Kolkata. this made me think about many things. time, place, people….. i was going to write about them all in this post, but maybe shouldn’t. i believe it is not always good idea to verbalize memory unless i were a good poet…..which is quite sad, but so true.

and my wisdom tooth hurts.

2 weeks before the war begins

the smallest beer can a little before mid-night, i’m about to finish my first day of the week. took shower, trimmed my eyebrows by myself for the first time in a couple months (yea, luckily somebody always does it for me. right jess? you were one of them), and just opened the smallest canned beer in the world i believe. it has only 135mL, not even 1 cooking cup. perfect size after shower. i remember that my housemates senior year worried about me because i was drinking beer by myself tuesday night. they thought i had a depression or something. in Japan, it seems that the girls who drinks beer by herself weekday night are called HIMONO ONNA, meaning dried food girl. i guess it’s more like the girls who wears nice and behave femininely in public, actually have life-style like a old man. yeah, so it seems i’m also categorized as a himono onna, though i believe that 90% of girls are secretly being himono onnna, though most guys don’t want to believe it.

anyways, after being seriously sick for a few days, today was my new start. i just realized that the first exam is coming up in 2 weeks. so maybe i should finish my smallest can of beer soon and study a little more. peace out!

Fans have Fans

I have heard since long ago that there are/were tons of hardcore fans of Bae Yong-Joon, a Korean actor, in Japan, but it was the first time I saw one of them. actually two of them.

One day, I was at Denny’s by myself, eating lunch and kind of studying. There were two middle-aged women, maybe around my mom’s age, sitting right in front of me. One women had a huge paper bag. It was ….huge. (by the way, watching people is one of my favorite entertainments in the city. seriously, I never get bored. there is always somebody who entertains me. and it is, of course, free! )

Back to the story. So these women were obviously excited. or maybe one of them, W1, was truly excited and the other, W2, pretended to be excited. I saw in a tv news broadcasting that Bae Yong-Joon was in Japan to promote his latest tv series “太王四神記”. It seemed that W1 went all the way to OSAKA and attended the premiere event.  W1 was excitedly talking about how awesome the event was and W2 noded. W2 seemed jealous. W1 took out a series of Bae Yong-Joon goods including more than 10 copies of event fliers and all different kinds of news papers which had an article on the premiere event.

W1 suddenly remembered that she had a souvenir for W2, took out a nicely wrapped box of chocolate. It was quite…..small. W2 said thank you. following chocolate, 2 fans on which Bae Yong-Joon’s face was printed came out from her HUGE paper bag.  W2 received one. W1 explained to W2 how she wants to use it to cooling rice when she makes sushi rice. W1 laughe loudly. I though 1 of the 2 fans was a souvenir for W1 together with the chocolate. W2 put it on the desk. W1 picked them up gently…..an put two fans back into her giant paper bag. Yes, it wasn’t a souvenior.

I kind of envied her being able to commit herself to one thing ….. to whatever it is.

FY1 1: I just checked the Yahoo! Japan auction page, and it was about 20 bucks and had 16 bids, still remaining 15 hourse before the dead line.

FYI 2: I purposely didn’t insert his photo into this post because I didn’t want his face to show up everytime I open the page. no special reason.

MVP for today

on the way to the public library, i was walking quite fast with my headphone on. there was a little girl, probably around 3 year old, walking to the opposite direction. she was with her mom. when we were about to pass each other, she suddenly stopped walking forward and came up to me. she looked up my face and opened her mouth wide open. and said,

“KONNICHIWA—!!!!”

MVP for today.

the most basic and the most important phrase for the human beings, i believe: Greetings.

7 hours later, on the way back home, i was sitting in the train again with my heardphone on. right before the doors closed, a middle-age woman rushed into the train and sat next me.  we looked at each other briefly, maybe not even for one second. i definitely knew her. she definitely recognized me. she is a mom of my friend from elementary school. i still keep in touch with my friend, but i haven’t seen this her mom for about 10 years. I didn’t greet her. and she didn’t greet me. maybe because we didn’t have a chance.

OR maybe becuase we did’t try to MAKE the chance.

though in my head, “I will just email my friend to check if this woman is really her mom when i get back home.” i mean, i actually know it is definitely her.

to become adult is maybe to learn how to make things up.

morning person OR night person?

Now, it’s about 11:30am. I just woke up and took a shower. My mom accused me of becoming a night person again just because I went to bed at 3 last night….. just one night….. and woke up after 10am. And keep in mind that today is Sunday.

I feel like I’m only writing about TIME in my blog, but oh well I will write about it anyways.

I was thinking of which should I be, a morning person OR night person when I am preparing for the entrance exam. I know that morning person is generally considered as better person, but I think being night person can be more efficient sometimes.

Living in the society (though I don’t belong to anywhere now….) is so much different from living in school in terms of discussing TIME. I was a morning person when I was in college, waking up at 7:30am everyday and went to bed by 1:00am. But I felt like I could do that because there wasn’t clear distinction between morning and night since we are on campus 24-7. I guess I try to go bed early and wake up early just to create my own way of distinct difference between MORNING and NIGHT.

But yeah, now it’s kind of different. If I want to like in society, I have to wake up early. (i.e. public library opens early and close early.) It’s not like NYC here as you know lol

I tried a couple different life style a past few days.

1) Supermorning person: I went to bed around 9 and woke up at 5. I was going to have good 3-hour morning study time before breakfast. Obviously didn’t work.

2) Night person: This is what I did yesterday, staying up till 3am and wake up around 11am. I think I can do somework at night ( very efficient! ) but I couldn’t function at all in the afternoon. But I think it’s ok coz library is crowded in the weekend so I don’t go there anyways.

3) Regular morning person: I don’t want to admit that what my mom told me was exactly right, but It worked well…boo. I woke up around 7am and went to be before midnight. A typical good-student schedule. But the thing is that I don’t feel like doing anything after dinner, which never happened to me when I was in college.

So yeah, this resulted in a boring conclusion, but it seems I should be a morning person for the weekdays and night person during the weekends. This means that I have to let my mom yell at me twice a week.

hmm…not bad.

P.S. The worst thing was…of course… to try out different time schedule everyday. My stomach wakes up around mid-night.
